Lansing Lawmakers Once Again Skip Work, Leave Michigan Schools & Students in the Lurch
As the legislature once again didn’t bother to show up to work today and continues to leave Michigan schools completely in the dark on what their budget will look like ‒ or when they will have one ‒ even as schools prepare to reopen their doors to students in only a few short weeks, the K-12 Alliance of Michigan issued the following statement.
“Educators show up to work every single day to support Michigan’s students and there is a growing anger and frustration toward those in Lansing who are now making that job harder through a combination of indifference and a desire to raid school funding further to pay for lawmakers’ pet projects.
The direct impact of this government debacle is seeing layoffs taking place in our schools and administrators preparing to reopen their doors to students without the personnel and resources in place to best support their success this year. This ongoing lack of accountability inside our Capitol will not soon be forgotten.”
